Southwest Roadrunners Welcome Spring at the Truckee, California Rally

The Southwest Roadrunners gathered in the Sierra Nevada mountains for their Spring Rally, held May 17–21, 2026, at Village Camp RV Resort in Truckee, California. 47 Leisure Travel Vans and 85 members attended, enjoying a week filled with friendship, adventure, relaxation, and spectacular mountain scenery.

Members arrived Sunday to cool, overcast weather, but spirits remained high as everyone gathered in the warm Village Camp clubhouse for an informal happy hour. The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere set the tone for the week, and soon the weather improved to near-perfect spring conditions.

Truckee offered plenty of opportunities for exploration. Neil Nesenblatt led a 22-mile bike ride to Northstar Ski Resort Summit, while Suzi Dupries organized a ride around Donner Lake.

Others enjoyed hiking the historic Railroad Tunnels, visiting Donner Memorial State Park, or exploring downtown Truckee’s shops, galleries, restaurants, and historic buildings.

As always, the daily 4:00 pm happy hours became the rally’s social centerpiece. Members gathered to share stories, travel experiences, maintenance tips, and plenty of laughter. Even the four-legged attendees seemed to enjoy the week, joining their owners on walks and relaxing throughout the resort.

Wednesday’s farewell dinner was a highlight. Village Camp’s Robert Williams prepared a delicious barbecue featuring ribs, chicken, baked beans, and corn on the cob, while members contributed an impressive assortment of potluck dishes and desserts. The evening captured everything that makes Roadrunner rallies special: great food, beautiful surroundings, and the joy of spending time with friends who share a love of travel and adventure.

As Thursday arrived and coaches began departing, members exchanged hugs, goodbyes, and plans for future rallies. The 2026 Southwest Roadrunners Spring Rally was a tremendous success, combining ideal weather, outdoor adventures, wonderful food, and the friendship that makes this club so special.

Special thanks go to the dedicated SWRR Leadership Team: Mark Simons for website and new-member outreach; Jeff and Kathy Rosenfeld for managing club finances; Judy Young for coordinating name tags; Josh Goldman, our unofficial sticker designer; and Jeri Goldstein, photographer extraordinaire and Facebook manager. Thanks also to Robert Williams and the entire Village Camp staff for their outstanding hospitality, and to every member who contributed food, friendship, and enthusiasm throughout the week.

Finally, heartfelt thanks to Gordon and Suzi for organizing a memorable rally in one of Gordon’s favorite places. Truckee provided a week of mountain memories, and attendees left already looking forward to gathering again down the road.
